2010 Fort Lauderdale Boat Show

2010 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show
Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, Thursday October 28 through Monday, November 1
In mid October, Fort Lauderdale starts to transform. Temporary docks stretch into the middle of the Intracoastal waterway around Bahia Mar Marina, huge yachts appear throughout the city's waterways and Las Olas Boulevard and Fort Lauderdale Beach come alive with a stylish couture-clad international crowd. Few cities offer such an outrageous spectacle, but October reminds us that Fort Lauderdale is a world-renowned hub of the elite boating and yachting community. The distinction likely has much to do with the city's miles of deep water canals, but we can also thank the annual Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, which is in its 51st year, for bringing international attention to the Venice of America.
Starting this Thursday, some of the world's biggest and most expensive megayachts will be on display -- look out for the very impressive "Cakewalk", a 284' yacht by Derecktor, and "Northern Star", a 247' yacht by Lurssen. There will also be mid-sized yachts, fishing boats and cool yachting toys -- from submarines to helicopters. Serious buyers will share docks with curious locals and travelers in a festival atmosphere that showcases the best of the best of the boating world. Hours: Thursday through Sunday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Monday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tickets: $16 adults advance, $18 at the show; $3 kids advance, $5 kids at the show; 2-day passes $32 advance, $34 at show. Click here for additionl information and to purchase online advance tickets.
