Stout

Stout is known as an Irish pub, but this place is so much more than that.  This venue screams casual but classy with it’s brand new décor and renovated design.  The bar has every drink imaginable, including your Irish favorites.  As you walk in, plasma televisions cover all the walls letting you know this is the ultimate spot to watch a sports game.  So kick back with a cool drink, and catch a great game at Stout’s.

Stout provides an amazing menu of foods.  Classic favorites like a 14oz Sterling Silver New York Strip Steak and Grilled Chicken Wings are always a hit.  I would highly recommend their Seared Tuna Oriental Salad (perfection!) and Steak Flatbread followed by some dessert.  Chocolate Molten Cake, anyone?  If you catch the Irish spirit, Stout does not disappoint.  They keep the tradition alive here with fish & chips, bangers and mash, and shepherd’s pie.  Click Here for Stout’s Facebook Page.

I have just found my favorite breakfast spot ever!  The only place to eat the most important meal of the day is at the Old Fort Lauderdale Breakfast House.  Located right next to The Museum of Discovery and Science & the AutoNation Building, you have the option to either drive your car or dock your boat.  The Old Fort Lauderdale Breakfast House loves the life of the sea!  Even their logo consists of a ship’s anchor.  Click Here for InTown's Listing of Old Fort Lauderdale Breakfast House.

Inside, the décor is simple and inviting, yet there are many hidden treasures, such as books by Hemmingway and classic photos of boats and fishing in Fort Lauderdale.  On the menu are even more treasures.  I highly recommend the divine (and healthy) “Poached and Roasted”, one of their breakfast specials, which consists of poached eggs, spinach, roasted potatoes, and fresh-baked bread.  Once you taste the food, you will quickly discover you’re not just another order number here.  This place cooks their meals with love, care, and to perfection.  Only high-quality food is served here.  Click Here for InTown’s Gallery of Old Fort Lauderdale Breakfast House.

Rocketman

Primanti Bros.

There is only one way to eat a sandwich…with cole slaw, onion, and fries in it.  Yes, Primanti Bros. has officially converted me.  Eating a sandwich any other way would just be sinful now.  Whether it’s turkey, pastrami, or egg and cheese, being able to eat your meal and sides all in one bite may just be the greatest concept ever!  Click Here for InTown’s Lising of Primanti Bros.

This is one of those places where the selection of food works for everyone.  The comfortable atmosphere is inviting, which compliments their friendly staff, who might tease you if you can’t finish those enormous sandwiches.  The famous Primanti Bros. restaurants have even been featured on The Travel Channel, but unlike the other viewers, you don’t have to go far for your fix.  Visit one of their three locations in Sunrise, Wilton Manors, and Fort Lauderdale Beach.  Click Here for Primanti Bros. website. 

Jungle Queen Riverboat

Fort Lauderdale is a spectacular city, but you can’t see the “real” scenery on the road.  It can only be done on water – more specifically, the waters of the Jungle Queen cruise.  Departing at 9:30am and 1:30pm, the ever-changing view gives you a glimpse into the epitome of luxury.  The three-hour tour takes you over the waters of places, such as Millionaire’s Row, Riverfront, and Port Everglades.  Click Here for InTown’s Listing of the Jungle Queen Riverboat.

As you leave the dock, the first sight is of “Tranquility”, NY Mayor Bloomberg’s yacht.  Captain Lyle brings the whole scene to life with his informative comments and witty humor.  One of the yachts we pass is owned by Waste Management and called “Business Stinks”.  As you pass the million-dollar mansions owned by stars and local business celebrities, you learn things about Fort Lauderdale that even a 20-year resident (like myself) wouldn’t have known.  Click Here for InTown’s Gallery of Jungle Queen Riverboat.

The four-hour dinner cruise is more than sightseeing.  It’s an event in itself.  Every night at 6pm, the Jungle Queen cruises the waters.  Everyone who sees the riverboat always waves to it.  As it passes the mansions, yachts, and historic dwellings, we come ashore on the Jungle Queen Tropical Isle.  It’s a beautiful lit-up “island” filled with exotic birds, macaws, and alligators.  Walk a little further and find the most delicious food!  All you can eat ribs, chicken shrimp, sides, and the greatest baked beans awaits your palete.  Following the meal comes chocolate cake, coffee, and a hilarious comedy show.  Once you’ve been fed and fully entertained, it's time to head back on the riverboat for a relaxing ride back to the dock.  Jungle Queen is truly a local treasure to be experienced by all.  Click Here for Jungle Queen Riverboat’s website.

Bluefoot Pirate Adventures

As you enjoy the cool breeze of the waters, the mini-pirates are off blasting their water cannons against the evil Barnacle Bill who comes by to try and steal their treasure chest.  You can never go wrong when kids get to spray water in someone’s face.  Alas, with the help of Davy Jones (that’s right), the key to the chest is found and treasure is shared among all on the ship.  Yes, Bluefoot Pirate Adventures is truly something different.  They provide an amazing pirate voyage that you can’t find anywhere else.  As they say, “Bluefoot is the finest pirate ship in Broward County”!  True, they are the only pirate ship in Broward County, but that statement still stands strong.  Click Here for Bluefoot Pirate Adventures’ website.

Riverfront Cruises

As the trip begins, the captain keeps things lighthearted by first pointing out the courthouse where Whitney picked up Bobby Brown.  Then, things start to get extravagant….a lot more extravagant.  We begin by viewing million dollar mansions and you are literally in their backyard peeking in.  Get a peek at the opulence that is the Wayne Huizenga Estate or the Michael Egan Compound.  The knowledgeable captain even brings us by Gloria Vanderbilt's home and informs us that Anderson Cooper is her son (who knew?).  As we sit on the luxurious cruise and pass by the homes of the rich and famous, we might start feeling a tad lavish ourselves.  Click Here for InTown's Gallery of Riverfront Cruises.
